Dominion Game
When it comes to strategic card games, few have experienced such an immediate following as the Dominion Game. Since its release in 2008, Dominion has reached enormous popularity in multiple countries, allowing Rio Grande Games to develop four expansions and collect a number of gaming awards along the way. But for those that haven’t t caught on to the popularity yet, what exactly is Dominion?
The Dominion Game is a strategy card game that takes place during medieval times. As an ambitious monarch who inherits a growing kingdom, you strive to develop much of the surrounding unclaimed land to increase your wealth and power. But with so many untouched areas looking to be united, the hand of greed touches other kings and queens, as well. You didn’t really think you were the only ruler looking to expand your kingdom, did you?
At the beginning of every game, each player begins with the same 10 cards — a setup of minor riches and small properties to get each city-state started. Turn by turn, players race toward expansion and build their deck with followers, buildings, money and more, hoping the right combination will aide in acquiring the unclaimed land.
But you can’t turn your back and remain oblivious to the world outside your nation. As other monarchs also become more powerful, they might resort to some questionable tactics you must be on the lookout for. Some of the strategies are evil and involve sabotaging rival lords, while others rely on vast amounts of wealth to peacefully take over territories. You must protect yourself from both at all times. But regardless of your plan or your opponent‘s, the goal remains the same: purchase the largest amount of land by the time the game ends, and you will claim victory.
